YES: Hpv type 16 is the one responsible for throat cancer. It is believe that it is due to oral sex. The good news is that cancers caused by this virus tend to respond better to treatment and are associated with better prognosis. It is standard practice now to evaluate all head/neck cancers for the presence of hpv 16.
