Parkinson's disease: When the patient becomes severely afflicted and the disease has been present for more than 5-7 yrs and the medication is now rather suboptimal with on/off episodes and worsening quality of life, dbs is an option.

PD ET Dystonia OCD: In the United States, dbs is fda approved for parkinson's disease and essential tremor. It may be performed under an fda humanitarian device exemption for dystonia and obsessive compulsive disorder.
