Yes: Yes, they can take both; sometimes they may be similar medicines so beware of additive side effects.

Yes and no: Be sure the over the counter product does not contain antihistamines which can dry secretions and possibibly make secretions more tenacious. Ask your physician or pharmacist before using such products.
