Mostly genetic!: Hair growth/hair loss can be influenced by many factors (your dna, health, diet, stress, meds, age, etc). While it's primarily genetic, that does not mean that it's not treatable. Today we have topical &oral meds, laser therapy, nutritionals, prp, minimally-invasive fue neograft hair transplants, etc to effectively help men and women maintain, enhance &restore their own living &growing hair.

Many: Depends on the type of hair loss. Mostly thyroid disease and stress. That stress can be physical or emotional. There are other specific diseases that cause patchy hair loss and even complete hair loss. Most primary care doctors and dermatologists can help you figure out the cause.

Possible causes...: One's primary care doctor can check for medical causes. If none are found, then one can see a dermatologist, especially one specializing in hair restoration (some treatments: minoxidil, etc, ...). Medical causes may include: hormonal problems (low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, stressful illness. Other causes: genetic male/female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium.

HairGrowth/HairLoss: If you are noticing thinning hair, a widening part or decreasing volume, these might be signs and symptoms of hereditary hair loss which will progress without treatment. While there is no miracle 'cure, ' the good news is that effective medical treatments can slow, stop and even reverse hair loss. Early treatment is best. Sincerely, alan j bauman md abhrs - boardcertified hair restoration physician.
