History, exam, labs: One needs to see a doctor to determine if signs or symptoms are from prostatitis or bph. The gold standard to diagnose these conditions of the prostate is a biopsy, although many physicians will make an accurate assessment of the clinical signs and symptoms to guide their therapy. A full history, exam including prostate exam, urinalysis, culture, uroflowmetry/residual may be used.
