Dr. TED FEDER answered

Fungus Infection: A fungus called Candida Albicans becomes uncontrolled causing painful white lesions in the mouth. They "slough" off to reveal a red base underneath. Babies, dentures and a comprimised immune system (stress, drugs, disease) are associated with thrush. Usually treated with anti-fungals as well as addressing the cause.
