A member asked:

What's the difference and similarity between toxoid and subunit vaccine?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Detoxified: A toxoid is a bacterial toxin such as tetanus or diphtheria or pertussis toxin, that has been detoxified but is still immunogenic so it can be used to protect against the toxin's effect. A subunit vaccine is a more general term for any part of a pathogen used as a vaccine to prevent infection with the whole pathogen.
