A member asked:

Should an elderly diabetic woman be worried about taking protein powder?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Diabetics are prone to kidney disease. If the elderly woman is malnutritioned and has low protein, protein powder may be needed to help for nutritional purposes. However, too much protein being filtered by the kidney is like putting tons of thick stuff in the garbage disposal and may gunk up the system causing worsening kidney function. Take the recommended daily amount of protein.
