It's an STD: Clarification to previous reply: "Active lesions" are not necessary to transmit. In people with HSV2, the virus is often present in the genital area without symptoms, and herpes often is caught from infected partners who don't know they are infected and/or who don't have an apparent outbreak at the time. Your partner also needs to be checked for infection, even if s/he hasn't noticed anything.
