What's the difference between schizophrenia and psychosis?

They're similar: But not the same. Psychosis is a symptom, like fever is a symptom. Many conditions can have psychosis as a symptom, scores of conditions if not a100 different ones. Schizophrenia is a brain disease which has the symptom of psychosis at its'core.

Psychosis: Schizophrenia is a thought disorder which has psychosis as one of its several symptoms. Psychosis is a symptom that can occur in schizophrenia or other disorders such as mood disorders, substance abuse, or secondary to medical illnesses or medications.
