They don't work: Acne is a serious, chronic, non-lifestyle-related, non-hygiene-related disease that presents a major social problem and is often permanently disfiguring. Forget the home remedies, especially if you're an adult responsible for a teen with acne. If topical benzoyl peroxide has not cleared it up after two weeks, get with a scientific physican who knows what they're doing. Do the right thing.

If for some reason there needs to be a delay seeing a scientific physician, vinegar is probably your best bet. But don't for a minute expect it to be as helpful as what today's medicine can offer.

Scientific Rx: You can't cure acne, but you can manage it until it self-cures. If topical benzoyl peroxide hasn't cleared you in two weeks, get with your personal physician who can add prescription strength Rx as required.

They don't work: I'm sorry. The stuff you read on the internet -- honey, lemon, pepper -- are cruel practical jokes directed against people who are already in a bad situation. Acne can be managed -- topical benzoyl peroxide or retinoic acid for starters, and your physician's prescription remedies if they arenot sufficient. Don't do this to yourself. Get seen and we can help.

Scientific Rx: Ignore all the pop advice (diet, sexual abstinence, hygiene, not touching your face) and the home remedies (honey, lemon, and pepper are all cruel hoaxes). If topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated (try up to 10% 2x/day) hasn't cleared you in two weeks, get with your personal physician. Best wishes.

OTC Acne Treatment: If one is getting scarring (not staining, but depressed or pitted scars), one should seek a medical opinion for prescription treatment. The following can be used: clogged pores (whiteheads and blackheads): - retinol at bedtime - salicylic acid - glycolic acid - benzoyl peroxide inflammatory lesions (red bumps and/or pus bumps) - benzoyl peroxide gel - topical sulfur.
