Herpes infection: Acyclovir--similar to famvir, (famciclovir) valcyclovir etc...Is an antiviral medication only indicated for treatment/suppression of herpes viral illness--herpes, chicken pox etc..It is the first effective herpes-specific therapy and is now available in generic formulation. You should ask doc/nurse when given med--what is used for and for how long..Consult doc. Good luck.

HSV: The drug is active against some herpes viruses with the best activity against herpes simplex. Some strains are resistance though.
