Yes and no: While legg-calve-perthes disease can hurt (especially in the fragmentation phase) the early hallmark is a painless limp. All cases of perthes should be closely monitored by an orthopaedist.

Yes: Child may show signs of limping and may complain of mild pain. May have had these symptoms intermittently over a period of weeks or even months. Pain sometimes is caused by muscle spasms Sometimes pain referred to knee and thigh from hip.
