Depends on Type: There are not very many specific treatments for icd. Generally the most effective approach depends on the nature of the impulse control problems. Are they associated, for instance, with mood symptoms (depression, irritability) - in which case mood stabilizers or antidepressants may be useful. Are there specific triggers? Is it a problem of an overactive stress system (beta blockers) etc.

Impulse control: Pharmacological treatment includes serotonin agents such as prozac (fluoxetine). Psychosocial tx involves cognitive behavior therapy such as systematic desensitization & psychoeducation, exposure with response prevention. Also treating comorbid conditions such as OCD & substance abuse.
