Can you be born with a sti (sexually transmitted infection) or just get them without sexual contact?

Some are passed down: There are a variety of std's that can infect a fetus & cause significant & devastating problems for a newborn. Syphilis can cause miscarriage, blood poisoning.Meningitis & major organ damage.Gonorrhea can cause blindness & joint infections.Chlamydia can cause eye problems & pneumonia. There are many others. If mama is infected she can give it to baby & the effect is determined by the disease.

Sort of: These infections cause very serious illness in the newborn. They really aren't called stis then. You can't be born with them and then pass them on when you become sexually active. You can get an STI with contact less than intercourse. Herpes can be spread by oral contact or from fingers as can other diseases.
