If medic. indicated: Only to relieve severe constipation or as part of a preoperative bowel preparation. Colonic irrigation as part of a general health regime does nothing for you other than give the knowledge that your large bowel is empty. Some rare individuals have wierd satisfaction from having their colon and rectum filled with fluid which then can then expell. No scientific evidence of beneficial effect.

Scam: This is a health fraud in which the operator shows normal peristalsis or some other normal but unattractive thing about the lower bowel and tells you it's at the root of your ill-health. Folks feel better because of the sweet talk from the operator. If someone mentions "toxic bowel settlement" or anything similar, phone your local district attorney.
