Why should the drinking age be 18--just beer?

Complicated: Personally - i think that a drinking age of 18 is appropriate if the laws in the us regarding drinking and driving were actually enforced and laws were enforced to prevent less than 18 drinking. I have heard that other countries allow 18 year olds to drink, but have zero tolerance for any drinking and driving before age 21, and enforce limits in adults.
