Could a testicular cyst (spermatocele) have an affect on testosterone production?

Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Doubtful: Testosterone production controlled by pituitary via lh. Sperm production controlled by pituitary via fsh. However, varicocele may increase local temperature such that sperm may not be viable. If concerned about hypogonadism or andropause, check lh, fsh & testosterone (total & free) along w/prolactin. Also check estradiol, too, as too much can negate benefit of t.
