Fiber: Since toddlers have a notoriously poor intake of vegetables, their fiber intake is also poor. One easy method is to give 1 teaspoon of psyllium fiber, found in benefiber, in a beverage every day. If despite the fiber, the child still has either painful stools or fewer than three good stools a week, the child should be seen by his/her doctor.

Constipation: Make sure s/he drinks enough fluid, pees 6-8 times/day. Add fibers, vegetable in diet, some prune juice, avoid fatty/fried food. If not better, give otc polyethylene glycol or MiraLAX 1 teaspoonful twice daily in milk or juice; can give mineral oil 1 teaspoonful twice daily mixed with food. If not better, needs evaluation to rule out other causes like hirschsprungs disease or acquired megacolon.
