Movies are wrong: Hands can not stand up to punching things, unprotected! pain, swelling, bruising, new angles. Get to your doc. These are your most valuable tools in your tool box. Waiting worsens outcome.

Pain and swelling: A broken hand usually is painful and is swollen. The broken areas may be difficult to move because of pain. A change in the shape of the hand is also an indication of broken bones. An x-rays is the best way to diagnose a broken bone in the hand.
