Thumb: He can make sure it is in good position also make sure there is no associated ligament injury.

Probably Nothing: Most fractures of the tips of the fingers do not require any specific treatment other than a splint for comfort for a few weeks. I would see a hand surgeon and get a xray because there are some fractures that require more involved treatment.
