Focalin (dexmethylphenidate): Focali belongs to the methylphenidate group of stimulants. Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) belongs to the amphetamine group of stimulants. Both are efficacious for attention deficit

It depends: Studies done with children with adhd have shown that about 80% of kids will respond to either the methylphenidate-type of stimulants like Ritalin & Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) or the amphetamine-type like dexadrine & adderall. But the 80% do not respond to both. Some respond better to one or the other. Often, it requires a little trial and error on the part of the physician as it isn't possible to predict response.
