Permanent cure for narcolepsy?

Not yet: Narcolepsy is controllable with many current medications, but a permanent cure remains in the future. Sleep medicine focus is a recent development in medicine, and with more understanding, you will see break-throughs. So, currently, we have provigil, nuvigil, xyrem, even various amphetamines, and a few other agents, to at least prevent sleep attacks.

No such thing: I only know little about this condition and the currently available treatments are only "so so" effective. There are on-going researches to find better treatment and possible cure. Make sure you work with your physician to find correctable causes of daytime sleepiness such as sleep apnea, thyroid disorder, medication side effects, diabetes etc..Keep good sleep hygiene, keep healthy. Good luck.

Not yet: There are powerful medications available to make to symptoms of narcolepsy tolerable. A sleep specialist can help you. We hope in the near future to have hypocretin modifying medications available. Trials are currently underway. Ultimately, stem cell therapy may be the cure for the disease.
