No harm: Though it can certainly help if you were to fall into water and could not get out.
Dr. Robert Kwok
Pediatrics 33 years experience
Probably not: Many people who enjoy swimming or diving practice holding their breaths so they can go farther without coming up for air. On the other hand, any activity in life can become harmful if the activity is taken to an extreme.

Inflammation bad!: Inflammation dose many things deleterious to the body including: releases inflammatory cytokines into the blood stream. This damages your blood vessels and accelerates atherosclerosis. Clotting factors rise, which are thrombotic themselves. The body enters a catabolic state (tiisue breakdown). People feel fatigued and bad. Inflammation from any cause need to treated.

Mom has systemic mrsa--what is this?

Dr. Joseph Woods

Resistant Staph inf.: This is likely MRSA or methacillin resistant staphylococcus aureus. This is a strain that is resistant to a drug that normally kills this. The best drug for this is likely vancomycin and there are instances of resistance to this as well. For a patient with systemic disease, like your mom, high doses of antibiotics are given and isolation is done to stop its spread.
