What causes herpes to spread?

Touch: Herpes spreads by touch. There are living viruses in the sores and you can introduce the virus pretty much anywhere on your body by touch. So it's very important to wash hands well after touching the sores. It is also spread in the saliva once you have been infected. You can spread herpes even when you aren't having any active sores.
