Old blood: The color of your blood solely depends on how long it's been since it was shed from your endometrium, or lining of your uterus. Dark brown blood solely means that the blood has left the lining awhile ago. This is typical and normal at the beginning and end of one's cycle.

Old Blood: This is more common when changing hormonal contraception or from endometrium that didn't shed with the previous cycle. Old endometrium or old blood is darker, often stickier & is not a problem unless it persists. After 3 similar menstrual cycles with dark black blood, see your gyn for an eval. Take care.
