Stone treatment.: Pcnl stands for percutaneous nephrolithotomy. It is a procedure used in the treatment of large kidney stones, which are too large or too dense to approach by ureteroscopy or shock-wave lithotripsy. First, a tube is placed into the kidney through a small incision in the flank. This incision is later widened to accommodate a nephroscope, which is used to visualize, disrupt, and remove the stone.
