Heart and liver: What type of complications are you referring to? Chronic right heart failure can cause liver cirrhosis by passive congestion (liver engorged with water and becomes fibrotic or scarred over time). Certain conditions such as hemochromatosis (iron overload) can cause both heart failure and liver cirrhosis. Liver cirrhosis itself can cause water retention particularly in the belly called ascites.
