Can be serious: Diarrhea can be dangerous and life-threatening in elderly people. If you are having three or more runny stools in 24 hours, you should call your doctor. The left sided pain could mean you are suffering from diverticulitis. If so, you would have to be treated with antibiotics. Another common causes would be a viral infection, food poisoning, taking too many medications with a newly added medication.
