No: Nitrofurantoin (macrodantin) and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (bactrim) are often used as prophylactic agents for recurrent bladder infection. Cephalosporins, e.g., omnicef, or fluoroquinolones, e.g., levaquin, (levofloxacin) however, should be reserved as therapeutic agents for pyelonephritis.
