Electrical: The concentration of sodium outside and potassium inside cells is important to the resting membrane charge on the cell surface. This has implications specifically for heart muscle cells (arrhythmia). The potassium concentration has to get below 3mmol/l or greater than 6.0 mmol/l before this would be expected. Low potassium can also cause regular muscles to feel weak.
