Avoid infections: This is a complex issue, as immune deficiencies have many different causes and severities. In general, people with immune deficiencies should avoid contact with sick persons and practice good hand hygiene, and the patient and all close contacts should be up to date on their vaccinations. For questions regarding a specific immune deficiency syndrome, see or speak to a clinical immunologist.

It's complicated : The best way for you (as a friend) to help someone with an immune deficiency is to help them find an immunologist who treats these disorders. What we do for the patients is to manage their infections as quickly as possible, try to identify which immune abnormality they have, and sometimes treat them with antibody replacement (ivig), gene therapy or bone marrow transplant.
