Sleep apnea?: That is the definition of sleep apnea. It is either central or obstructive. Central apneas arise from the central nervous system - you don't try to breathe. Obstructive apnea (osa) arises when the airway is completely or partly obstructed, by the tongue, uvula, soft palate, tonsils, adenoids, etc. Accompanied by a drop in blood oxygen, it is life threatening and raises risk of many conditions.
