Is an oatmeal bath effective?

Itching: The powder derived from the milling of oats has a soothing effect on those with chickenpox or other causes of dry itchy skin. The packets are added to lukewarm water & seem to work for a few hours in many patients. You do not put oatmeal in your tub, it just makes a mess.
