How do retroviruses such as hiv differ from other types of viruses?

Rev transcriptase: "retro-" means backwards and the virus carries RNA which is translated backwards to dna by their own reverse transcriptase; the dna is then integrated into the host's genome. The "endogenous retroviruses" can even be passed from generation by infection the sperms / eggs.
