Convergence excess?: A rare disorder of the muscles of the eye will produce double vision when you try to look close. The process of close vision is called convergence. The eyes will normally move closer together to focus on an object up close. In this condition the eyes move too close and the two images overlap instead of fusing. Glasses often help and there are exercises to help control this effect.
