It's complicated: So sometimes the stool gets hard and gets stuck in your colon, and occasionally some stool can sneak around the hard one. So you are constipated with the hard stool and the soft stool that sneaks around the hard one comes out like diarrhea.

IF you have a fecal: Impaction in the rectum that is incomplete, you may be passing liquid stool around it giving you the idea that you are having diarrhea but are really constipated. You need a rectal exam at least.
