Prostaglandin : Sounds like he was referring to the use of prostaglandin gel to soften the cervix for induction of labor. Prepidil is one common brand. Schedule a follow to make sure you have gone over the process, the risks and the benefits to elective induction of labor.

Induction: He is going to place a gel in your cervix to help your cervix ripen and hopefully cause contractions. This is one of the ways we induce labor. If you don't understand what your doctor is saying or is going to do, stop him and say. "wait, what does that mean, what are you going to do, what will it do to me and what are the risks and benefits to me and my baby".
