A member asked:

Why does a sharp pain make me cough?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can evaluate: A doctor can evaluate if a person has a new symptom of "a sharp pain will make me cough". Pain will cause some quick responses in one's nervous system, including the release of some adrenaline hormone, and an increase in heart rate and breathing rate. It could be that some of those automatic responses to pain are triggering a cough reflex, but if the symptom is new, an evaluation is helpful.
