No: Try rinsing out with very cold water prior to brushing to eliminate some of the sensitivity in your palate. Also lean forward and try to breath through your nose as much as possible.

No idea: Honestly it's hard to give you a definitive answer why you are gagging when you brush. It could be consistency of the paste or the flavor. Toothpastes come in a variety of consistencies... Gels, pastes, and foam. Foam toothpastes are great for patients in braces because it can penetrate through those difficult areas to reach. I use regular crest paste. It's not as thick as some of the others.

Unknown: If this gagging is relatively new i would ask if there has been any significant weight gain recently. When weight is gained it can show up inside the mouth and cause the patient to more easily gag. If this is the case for you, try to kep your lips together and your mouth closed as much as possible while brushing your back teeth. Hope this helps.
