Usually yes: It depends on the type of radiation treatment. Radiation that is directed at the body from a machine is gone as soon as the machine is turned off. You do not remain "radioactive". Radiation that is put into the body through an iv, an oral liquid, or implanted pellets or seeds stays with the patient, and the patient should avoid babies for a period of time. Ask your doctor or nurse.

Yes, if...: The most common type of radiation treatments use a machine that creates a beam of radiation. After the machine is turned off, there is no more radiation and the patient is not radioactive. Brachytherapy is where a doctor implants radiative seeds into the patient (usually the prostate). These patients have to avoid certain activities for several weeks. Talk to your radiation oncologist.
