How it looks: Usually a surgical site will have slowly decreasing pain, no excess swelling, and no excess redness or drainage. There will normally be mild swelling and possibly slight bruising that will be temporary. Increasing redness and increasing pain may not be a good sign.

Takes 2-3 months: Most incisions heal completely within about three months. During that time, they will develop a pink color that fades and will feel bumpy. All of these disappear when healing is complete. If you develop a bright red color around the wound or see any discharge, see your doctor immediately.
