Heart rate below 100: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or cpr, should be initiated if a newborn's heart rate is below 100, despite being warmed, dried, and stimulated. Newborn CPR follows the "abcs" - airway, breathing, and circulation, proceeding from a to b to c if the heart rate does not rise above 100 with each intervention. Chest compressions, which are part of c, are indicated if the heart rate drops below 60.
