See below: Depending on the fracture, it may need to be treated with a splint or a cast or may even require surgery (as in a hip fracture). Depending on the site and the need for surgery, there may be restrictions in weight bearing for several weeks while the fracture is given a chance to heal. After that weight bearing has advanced and physical therapy usually begins. Every case is different however.
