A member asked:

Could you describe how venipuncture works?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Puncture vein: Venipunture is the process of puncturing a vein to gain access for drawing of blood (by aspirating with a syringe), inserting a catheter for IV purpose, or inserting a wire using seldinger technique to place a sheath. Direct puncture of the palpable vein is performed often using a tourniquet above the access site.
