Mirtazepine: Mirtazepine, or remeron, (mirtazapine) is an antidepressant which can both improve sleep and appetite. If a depressed patient has trouble with both falling asleep and maintaining body weight, the side effects of sedation and increased appetite can be used to advantage.

Remeron/mirtazapine: Is used to treat depression. It has side effects that we can capitalize upon with some patients such as those who also suffer with insomnia, or patients with poor appetites, as it tends to be sedating and stimulates appetite. But, it is an antidepressant, regardless of the side effects.
