Dear dr, my mom is 74 years old, her blood pressure is high at the moment, 170/105 i gave her 16 mg of candesartan cilexetil, but only went down 150/ 95 within 15 minutes, is that normal? when should it go down ? how long will it take for the blood pressu

Watch it a little: Candesartan is an arb class drug. It has a medium half life of 5-10 hours so it may not work immediately. Watch the blood pressure for the next few hours. Should she have headaches or blurred vision then seek medical attention. Record her blood pressures at different times and take them with you for the next doctor visit.

Yes: blood pressure should decrease several hours after taking the med. more importantly is how your mother feels- does she feel weak or have a headache. is she under stress, what health issues does she have etc. short term, a bp of 150/95 is not serious, but I would keep a log of bp .time and date, readings and then make appointment with her primary and go over her bp medications and adjust as needed
