Relative rest: Things to try: regular NSAID use, restrict painfull activities (squattting and kneeling), restore quadricep strength and stretch illiotibial band.
Dr. Mark Galland
Orthopedic Surgery 32 years experience
Treatment options: My suggestions to patients with patella tendonitis consist of rice, anti-inflammatories (oral/ topical), quad stregthening, lower extremity stretching. I also may suggest ice massage, or counterforce bracing. If the above list does not help then you may want to consider discussing prp with your physician based on some recent literature (http://drmarkgalland.Com/category/knee/).

Soft tissue vs. bony: Tendinitis is an inflammatory process of a tendon. It is a soft tissue problem that usually occurs outside of a joint. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative process involving the joint. The cartilage covering the ends of the bones is wearing out. As the cartilage wear out the bone may start to rub and cause pain. In advanced oa bony spurs may form and te joint may not move as well as well.

As a tennis player recovering from tendinitis, what kinds of vitamin supplements should I be taking?

No specific vitamins: For a healing tendon, there are no specific vitamins needed to aid in the healing. This is assuming that one eats a balanced diet with lean proteins, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and low saturated fat. If one does not eat this way, a plain multivitamin can supplement (but not replace) a proper diet.

How could I heal bursitis and tendonitis in my elbow?

Stretching: Stretching exercises by keeping the elbow fully extended and then bending the wrist up and down are the best way to stretch the tendons of the elbow. Alternating heat and ice to the affected area can also help. If this does not help an injection sometimes is used in the most severe cases even surgery may be needed.

Hand tendonitis: This condition is often caused by repetitive injuries from certain hand movements, or finger movements. Analyze your posture and hand placement and then improve work conditions by using proper preventive keyboards to use hands in a less stressful manner. There are special keyboards that are made to be orthopedically more friendly to the hands. Improve chair posture and rest frequently.

Phys. therapy helps: Nonoperative measures usually thwart a significant case of patellar tendinitis. Physical therapy can be perscribed to help fine tune a personalized stretching program to both treat and prevent this problem. Nsaids can also be of benefit.
