What is the difference between a period and afterbirth bleeding?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Etiology: A period is caused by sluffing of the endometrium from the decrease in Progesterone in women who have not conceived. Afterbirht bleeding is caused after a birth and is secondary to the inside lining of the uterus sluffing off and the uterus contracting after a pregnancy. It can occur for a few weeks whereas period bleeding usually lasts only 7 days.
