Cool compresses: If the reaction is localized to the ankle, and your child does not have any other swelling elsewhere, difficulty breathing, coughing, or tightness in the throat or chest, i would do the following: cool compresses to the affected area, and benadryl (diphenhydramine). If any of the above are present, seek immediate medical care.

Allergic reaction: An antihistamine immediately, with ice and elevation. If the symptoms persist beyond the foot, i.E throat tightness, difficulty breathing then go straight to the emergency room for immediate attention.
